U.S. import prices decreased 0.4 percent in July, marking the largest monthly decline since May 2025. This was primarily driven by a significant 7.2 percent fall in fuel import prices, notably a 7.5 percent drop in petroleum and petroleum products. Conversely, nonfuel import prices increased 0.4 percent in July, supported by rises in capital goods and foods, feeds, and beverages.
Despite the monthly decline, overall import prices are up 5.9 percent year-over-year from July 2025 to July 2026, while export prices decreased 1.3 percent in July.
